How People Pay for Surrogacy & Egg Donation
The full cost is significant — but it is rarely paid all at once, and most intended parents use a combination of personal savings, loans, employer benefits, and grants.
Fertility-specific lenders like CapexMD, Future Family, andProsper Healthcare Lending offer loans up to $75,000–$100,000 for egg donation and surrogacy costs. Many employers now offer fertility or surrogacy benefits ($10,000–$50,000). FSA and HSA funds can cover IVF medical expenses. Costs are paid in stages— not all upfront — which makes the total more manageable than it first appears.
You Are Not Writing One Large Check
Surrogacy and egg donation costs are paid in stages across months or years. Understanding the payment timeline helps you plan financing rather than treating the total as a single upfront obligation.
Fertility Financing Companies
Several lenders specialize in fertility and family-building loans. They understand the unique cost structure of surrogacy and egg donation and often have higher approval rates for these specific use cases than general personal loan products.
CapexMD
Fertility-specific loansOne of the most widely used fertility lenders. Offers loans up to $75,000 for IVF, egg donation, and surrogacy-related costs. Works directly with fertility clinics and agencies.
Loan amounts, rates, and eligibility depend on creditworthiness. Consult CapexMD directly for current terms.

Check Your Benefits Before You Budget
Employer fertility and family-building benefits have expanded significantly in recent years. Many intended parents are unaware of coverage they already have — or benefits they are entitled to ask for.
Grants and Nonprofit Programs
Several nonprofits provide grants for fertility treatments and family building. Grant amounts are modest relative to total journey costs, but they can meaningfully offset out-of-pocket expenses. Competition for grants is real — apply to multiple programs and apply early.
Baby Quest Foundation
Fertility treatment grantsProvides grants to individuals and couples who cannot afford fertility treatments. Awards vary by cycle and application. Applications are reviewed twice per year.
The Tinina Q. Cade Foundation

Financing Questions
Can I finance the full cost of surrogacy?
Some lenders will finance up to $75,000–$100,000, which can cover a significant portion of a surrogacy journey. Most intended parents combine a loan with personal savings, employer benefits, and/or grants. Very few finance 100% of a full egg donation + surrogacy journey through a single lender.
Is egg donation cheaper to finance than surrogacy?
Yes. An egg donation cycle ($30,000–$55,000) is within the loan limits of most fertility lenders and is often manageable with a single personal loan. Surrogacy journeys ($90,000–$200,000) almost always require a combination of financing strategies.
Does financing affect my eligibility to work with Alpha Fidelis?
No. We do not screen intended parents based on how they are financing their journey. We do require that funds be in place before each major milestone — particularly before surrogate compensation is funded into escrow — but the source of those funds is your own business.
When do I need to have funds ready?
The agency coordination fee is due at program start. Surrogate compensation is funded into escrow before the medical matching process begins — not at the very start of the agency relationship. We give intended parents a clear timeline at the initial consultation so there are no surprises.
Are there tax deductions for surrogacy or egg donation costs?
Some fertility-related medical expenses may be deductible if you itemize deductions and the costs exceed the IRS threshold for medical expense deductions. Surrogacy agency fees and surrogate compensation are generally not deductible. Tax law in this area is nuanced — consult a tax professional with experience in reproductive technology.
